Ambien

Ambien should be taken as per doctor’s instructions as the dose will be different to different patients. The average doses of Ambien would be for the treatment of insomnia:

Adults: 10 mg at bedtime.
Older adults: 5 mg at bedtime.
Children up to 18 years of age: dose must be determined by a doctor only.

Ambien Missed Dose:
Missing a dose of Ambien will not cause any problems; you can take the missed dose only if you are sure that you can get 7 or 8 full hours of sleep after the dose.

Ambien Overdose:
The symptoms of Ambien overdose sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, difficult or slow breathing, and unconsciousness. If you have taken an overdose of this medicine, seek emergency medical attention.
Ambien Side Effects

If you find the following serious side effects, please consult a doctor immediately:

• An allergic reaction e.g.; difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, tongue; itching
• Hallucinations

Continue to take Ambien after consulting your doctor if you experience the following less serious side effects:

• Headache, drowsiness, dizziness, or clumsiness;
• Nausea,
• Diarrhea or constipation;
• Depression;
• Muscle aches or pains;
• Vivid or abnormal dreams;
• Amnesia

There are chances that after stopping the Ambien medication, one may experience “Rebound insomnia”. It means that that a person experience more while trouble sleeping during the first few nights after the Ambien is stopped than before starting the medicine. If you experience rebound insomnia, do not get discouraged, as the symptoms go away after 1 or 2 nights.

* Talk to your doctor about any side effect other than the following that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Ambien Precaution
If you think of taking Ambien more than 7 to 10 days, please consult your doctor. Ambien may increase the effect of other antidepressants causing drowsiness, and other sedatives like pain killer, muscle relaxants, anxiety medicines and alcohol taken in combination with Ambien will cause drowsiness. Let the doctor know if you are taking these medications. At the same time, the doctor must know about your health problems, especially Alcohol abuse or drug abuse or dependence, emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, or other chronic lung disease or Mental depression or Sleep apnea, kidney disease or liver disease or if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
