Effect of Xanax on Children

Although children and teenagers do have their own reasons for anxiety and related problems but then xanax is not meant to be prescribed for children. Xanax should strictly not be administered to children as they may suffer grave side effects. Do not give Xanax to children unless advised by the child's doctor. The safety and effectiveness of Xanax in children have not been established.

Parents or the elders should look into the root cause of the anxiety in their children. Children are too young for harsh benzodiazepine drugs like xanax. Since anti anxiety drugs like xanax are addictive by nature therefore if these kind of medicines are administered to the children at a tender age they are more likely to be harmed by the harmful side effects of this medicine. Instead the parents should first try to find out that is the anxiety noticed in their chid is because of some particular situation rising or due to some sudden happening or mishap occuring in their lives. Many a times the children when unable to handle the social stress around them, either in their neighborhood or in their school tend to pick up the situation of anxiety disorder.

In such a situation the parents should try to make their children comfortable by discussing things with them or talking. In severe situations where the child needs medical attention, the parents should go and meet a counselor or psychologist for the removal of anxiety in their children. The parents should never encourage their children to take xanax in such a case because as already said xanax has its own side effects, since it is addictive by nature like the other drugs belonging to the class of benzodiazepines. Moreover how far xanax is safe for children has still not been proved. The children should also be enlightened about the addictive nature of xanax so that they may not start taking the medicine, xanax, on their own.
