Sonata

Sonata Prescription:
Sonata is available only with doctor’s prescription and should be taken just before going to bed as Sonata works very quickly. Sonata should be used for short-term sleep treatment only, usually 7 to 10 days. Longer-term use must be monitored closely by a doctor as it may lose effectiveness if used for a long term.

Sonata should be taken as per doctor’s instructions as the dose will be different to different patients. The average doses of Sonata would be for the treatment of insomnia:
Adults: 10 mg at bedtime.
Older adults: 5 mg at bedtime.
Children up to 18 years of age: Dose must be determined by a doctor only.

Sonata Missed Dose:
Missing a dose of Sonata will not cause any problems; you can take the missed dose only if you are sure that you can get 4 or 5 full hours of sleep after the dose.

Sonata Overdose:
The symptoms of Sonata overdose sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, low blood pressure, difficult or slow breathing, unconsciousness, and even death. If you have taken an overdose of this medicine, seek immediate medical attention.
Sonata Side Effects

If you find the following serious side effects, please consult a doctor immediately:

• An allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; or hives)
• Hallucinations, abnormal behavior, or severe confusion.
• Suicidal thoughts.

Continue to take Sonata after consulting your doctor if you experience the following less serious side effects

• Day-time drowsiness;
• Dizziness or lightheadedness;
• Unsteadiness or falls;
• Double vision or other vision problems;
• Agitation;
• Confusion;
• Headache;
• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain;
• Depression;
• Muscle weakness;
• Tremor;
• Abnormal dreams;
• Memory difficulties.

There are chances that after stopping the Sonata medication, one may experience “Rebound insomnia”. It means that a person experience more trouble while sleeping during the first few nights after the Sonata is stopped than before starting the medicine. If you experience rebound insomnia, do not get discouraged, as the symptoms go away after 1 or 2 nights.

* Talk to your doctor about any side effect other than the following that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Sonata Precaution
If you think of taking Sonata more than 7 to 10 days, please consult your doctor. Sonata may increase the effect of other antidepressants causing drowsiness, and other sedatives like pain killer, muscle relaxants, anxiety medicines and alcohol taken in combination with Sonata will cause drowsiness. Let the doctor know if you are taking these medications. At the same time, the doctor must know about your health problems, especially an allergy or sensitivity to tartrazine; have a history of drug or alcohol addiction; are depressed; have liver disease; have sleep apnea (stopping breathing for short periods while asleep); have asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or another respiratory disease; or have myasthenia gravis and if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
